Volume Oscillation in Macroporous Gel
We succeeded in synthesizing microphase-separated self-oscillating gel and realized volume oscillation of the gel driven by chemical energy. The novel polymer gels were composed of a non-thermoresponsive polyacrylamide main chain covalently bonded to a ruthenium catalyst for the Belousov-Zhabotinslcy (BZ) reaction. By changing the temperature, the displacement and frequency of the volume oscillation in gels were changed. Moreover, we showed that the displacement of the gel has a trade-off relationship with the frequency of the volume oscillation.
