Anodic electrodeposition of asphalt-polystyrene emulsions on galvanized steel
Anodic electrodeposition of a commercial asphaltic emulsion modified with polystyrene emulsion and oleate of potassium was studied. The process was carried out at a constant voltage in a continuously agitated bath, employing galvanized steel electrodes maintained at a fixed distance of separation. Composition and operating conditions were determined to obtain uniform texture and compact films with a thickness usable by industry. It was found that the system obeyed Ohm's and Faraday's laws and presented film-dissolution behavior. In addition, a kinetic study was performed in which a mathematical model was proposed to predict film growth with time.
