PhI(OAc)(2)-mediated dehydrogenation of alpha-alkyl-beta-dicarbonyl compound has been developed to afford alpha-ylidene-beta-dicarbonyl compounds with high stereoselectivity under mild conditions. This process provides a complementary entry to stereoselectivity for the Knoevenagel reaction.
