Increased Energy and Material Efficiency of Steelmaking in the Electric Arc Furnace
The electric arc furnace is the most important steelmaking process on the basis of recycling of steel scrap. The major part of the production costs is caused by the consumption of electrical and chemical energy and the charge materials. The energy and material efficiency of the process can be increased by reducing the thermal losses and by applying a dynamic process control based on mathematical models and a continuous off-gas analysis. First results are presented.
