Drilling and completion fluids optimized by petrographic and capillary suction time (CST) analyses improved well productivity for the lower Stevens sands in Kern County, CA. The fluid systems allowed drilling of a gauge hole, which was essential to a good cement bond and a successful fracture stimulation of the low-permeability formation.
