Thermochemistry of the binary nitrocellulose/2,4,6-trinitrotoluene system
Mixts. of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) with nitrocellulose were pelleted under 1 GPa, stored for 1066 days and studied for beta relaxation temp., melting and mixing enthalpies and Flory-Huggins interaction parameter by differential scanning calorimetry. The mixing enthalpy increased with increasing mass fraction of TNT. The melting enthalpy and Flory-Huggins parameter showed a min. when plotted versus TNT mass fraction. The eutectic temp. of the mixt. was 335.9 K for TNT mass fraction 0.550.
