Poli(acrylic acid)-based hydrogels for modern agricultural applications
Aq. soln. of CH(2)=CHCOOH was neutralized with KOH and crosslinked after addn. of (CH(2)=CHCONH)(2)CH(2) in presence of poly(ethylene glycol), KH(2)PO(4) and (NH(4))(2)S(2)O(8) at room temp. under microwave irradn. (400 W) for 3 min to produce an acrylic hydro gel used then as a controlled release fertilizer. Structure of the hydrogels was studied by SEM and X-ray diffraction anal. The hydro gels were tested for H(2)O absorption capacity and kinetics of KH(2)PO(4) release to distd. H(2)O. The full release of KH(2)PO(4) was achieved after 20 days of expt.
