New filtering membranes for separation of particulate matter from diesel exhaust
Filter medium (diam. 15 mm, thickness 0.3 or 2 mm) was made of compacted FeCrAl alloy fibers (5 and 20 mu m in diam.) and used for removal of soot from diesel exhaust gases under lab. conditions to det. the effect of filter load, no. of filter regeneration cycles and amt. of the trapped soot on the filter flow resistance. The prototype filter (0.3 mm thick) was tested in a city bus for 5 weeks (filtration surface 0.2 m(2), 5 regeneration cycles). High efficiency of the soot removed (90%) was achieved.
