Samples of a com. compost of sewage sludge were analyzed for humic and fulvic acids (C content) by UV spectrophotometry (590 nm) after extn. with 0.5 M NaOH, and oxidn. with 0.068 M K2Cr2O7 at 140 degrees C. The direct detn. of the acids by UV spectrophotometry at 464 nm and 664 nm was used for calcg. the absorbance ratio recommended as the compost humidification index. The studied compost was not mature enough after 22 weeks of composting.
