Modelling the effect of the refining process on the properties of paper
A static "feed-forward" network was designed, based on the Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm and having refiner parameters as inputs (rotor rpm, effective load power, pulp consistency, flow rate) and paper strength properties (breaking length, tear resistance, burst strength) as outputs. Simulations gave values quite consistent with the data observed in a pilot plant operating an Escher-Wyss conical refiner. The present model appears to offer the sole and sufficient method for modeling the pulp beating process.
