Effect of physical and chemical liquid binder properties on mechanical strength of powder bed
Capillary adhesion forces induced by liquid bridges were studied and a model of powder bed strength features was performed. Significant and similar effect of liquid properties (expressed in form of capillary number Ca) on both capillary adhesion forces and increment of uniaxial tensile strength of a model powder bed were found. An empirical model describing the uniaxial tensile strength of a powder bed as a function of capillary number Ca, liquid saturation of a powder bed S and dry material strength properties was developed.
