Physicochemical properties of Pt/Geo(2) catalysts in the gas-phase selective reduction of crotonaldehyde
With Pt present, GeO2 is topochem. reduced already at 120 degrees C to form Pt-Ge active centers that actively (225 mu mols/(s g Pt)) and selectively (67%) catalyzed the hydrogenation (80 degrees C) of crotonaldehyde to the alc. The 1, 2 and (best) 5%Pt/GeO2 catalysts were examd. by BET, TPR, XRD, FTIR and TEM. Redn. at >= 200 degrees C gave PtGe alloys and deactivated the catalysts.
