Recovering organochlorine compounds from industrial wastewaters
Calcns. based on an equil. column model and a kinetic cell model with an external mass transfer coeff. (R. Pelech, E. Milchert, M. Bartkowiak., J. Colloid Interf. Sci., 296,458 (2006)) showed steam-stripped 5-10 g Cl compds./ton PVC waste-waters to be best purified in a 80-120-cm granular activated C bed at a linear flow rate of 9 m/hr. The Cl compds. include CHCl3, CCl4, C2Cl4, 1,2-di- and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane, C2H4Cl2, vinylidene chloride, etc. A 100-cm bed can work for 123 hrs. Breakthrough curves of heptenary solns. are shown with exptl. ps. plotted. The bed is regenerated with steam at 140 degrees C. Steam/wastewater ratio is 5 kg/1000 kg.
