Total oxidation of organosulfur compounds
Aq. or aq. EtOH solutions of diphenylsulfone, thiazole or thiophene, 0.5 g/L, 1.2-dichloropropane 0.6 or PhOH 0.5 g/L were passed over 0.02-1.0 g of 0.1%Pt/(a) over tilde -Al2O3 or Cu-Zn, or V catalyst, contact time 0.01-0.8 s, in a two-segment reactor, one segment heated to 350degreesC (evaporation) and the other to 400-800degreesC. With the Pt, high conversion degrees, 92-99%, and stable catalyst operation were achieved at min. 500degreesC, and with Cu-Zn or V. at min. 550-600degreesC. The catalysts suppressed, and sulfur compounds helped to suppress, the total emission of dioxins in thermocatalytic oxidation of organochlorine compounds (1,2-dichloropropane).
