A new type of catalyst for low-temperature conversion of carbon monoxide
A new Polish catalyst, TMC-3/1A (vs. the old TMC-3/1) contg. CuO 50 (40), ZnO 35 (45), Al2O3 15 (15)%, 4.5x3.5 (6x4) mm, bulk d. 1.20 (1.17) kg/L, mechanical strength 8.14 (7.33) kN/cm(2), activity 110% (100%) per unit geometric surface area, 125% (100%) per unit bed volume, overall sp. surface 48 (51) m(2)/g, Cu sp. surface 15.7 (11.8) m(2)/g, proved to be competitive to two well-known non-Polish com. catalysts. The catalysts were examined in the oxidized condition, after reduction with (5:95 v/v) H-2-N-2, at 200-240degreesC, overheated at 400degreesC, 2.4 MPa, for 20 h in the (1:1) H2O/gas reaction mixture, 60-100 L(S.T.P)/h. Formation of MeOH was determined at H2O/ gas = 0.35. New alkali-promoted modifications showed enhanced selectivity.
