Furfurol extraction of resin- and asphaltene-free oil fractions was intensified by using an extractor packed with 50-mm layers of structured packing, whereby viscosity index was enhanced from similar to70 to >100, the raffinate was enriched in paraffins and naphthenes by a factor of 1.4; PAH, resinous components, S compounds, and fouling agents were reduced. Axial mixing ad phase entrainment were eliminated. Work between down times was prolonged from 12 to 36 months.
