A simple relation between the detonation velocity of an explosive and its gurney energy
Based on energetic considerations, we deduce a simple link between the detonation velocity D of an explosive and its Gurney energy E-G, namely root2E(G) = D/3.08. The calculations rely on classical results of detonation theory, linked to the assumption of adiabatic expansion of the gaseous detonation products.
