LNG safety: An issue of increasing importance
The emergence of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to fill the growing gap in natural gas supply has led to a renewed interest in LNG safety. LNG regulations, which developed primarily in the 1970s, do not contain many process safety management concepts currently practiced by the rest of the process industry. Rather than continuous patching of federal LNG rules, a complete revamp using process safety concepts is long overdue, to maintain the excellent safety record that the LNG industry has enjoyed.
