Catalytic oxidative coupling of alkylbenzenes in melts
Toluene transformation on melted NaOH and KOH and the influence of bismuth, calcium, phosphorus, or vanadium oxide admixtures on the toluene conversion were studied in the temperature range 540-720 degreesC. The highest selectivity for dibenzyl was achieved on the NaOH-KOH (equiv) + 10 wt % V2O5 catalyst in air. The scheme of toluene transformation on melted NaOH is proposed.
