Novel, complex, multi-layer thermoplastic composite parts for lightweight applications in the transport sector are being manufactured on an application-specific basis by multi-layer/sandwich injection moulding with embedded reinforcements made from continuous fibre preforms. Optimised micro-structure and interfacial adhesion are crucial to the outstanding mechanical properties of this new class of materials.
