Compositions, densities, and refractive indices of potassium chloride plus ethanol plus water and sodium chloride plus ethanol plus water solutions at (298.15 and 313.15) K
Solubilities, densities, and refractive indices data have been measured for the ternary systems KCl + C2H5OH + H2O and NaCl + C2H5OH + H2O at (298.15 and 313.15) K, with mass fractions of ethanol ranging from 0 to 0.9. Polynomial equations of fit are proposed for solubility of the saturated solutions as a function of the mass fraction of ethanol. Density and refractive index were also determined for the same ternary systems with varied undersaturated salt concentrations. Values for both properties were correlated with the salt concentrations and proportions of alcohol in the solutions. The equations proposed also account for the saturated solutions. Finally, data are also presented on the equilibrium of the quaternary system KCl + NaCl + C2H5OH + H2O at (298.15 and 313.15) K. The solubility equilibrium was obtained beginning from supersaturated solutions of both salts using a known ethanol-to-water ratio. The concentrations, densities, and refractive indices were determined for the saturated solutions.
