In this work, we utilized halogen molecules as co-polarizer with 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (TCNQ) for enhanced separation performance of facilitated olefin transport membrane. Previous membranes were prepared using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP, Mw 40,000), silver tetrafluoroborate to produce silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) and TCNQ as electron acceptor. After the preparation of PVP/AgNPs/TCNQ composite, I2 was incorporated into membrane to further polarize the surface of AgNPs, expecting the enhancement of separation performance. Actually, PVP/AgNPs/TCNQ/I2 composite membrane showed the increased selectivity and mixed-gas permeance. Unfortunately, these membranes showed the poor long-term stability with time, possibly due to the diminished interaction between TCNQ and surface of AgNPs. The surface and size of polarized Ag NPs were examined by XPS and TEM, respectively. |
