Core-shell polymer nanoparticles were synthesized with polyethylenimine (PEI) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). Tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP) was used for a redox initiator. The polymerization for the nanoparticles was originated from generated radicals between PEI and TBHP. In this study, PEI was protonated with carbon dioxide (CO2) gas in order to prevent by-products. To study the mechanism of particle formation, the core-shell particles were prepared in various conditions which were different solvents and the ratio of MMA to PEI. The morphology of nanoparticles was spherical in shape and well-defined core-shell nanostructure illustrated by scanning electron microscope(SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). |
