Diseases that cause impaired human organs and tissues have increased due to an expanded life span, natural disasters, and other illnesses. However, since existing biomaterials have their limits such as lack of biocompatibility and bioactivity. Commonly, tissue engineering strategies utilize the combination of cells, biomaterial scaffold, and bioactive molecules to recapitulate natural process of tissue regeneration and development. In addition, Implantable biomaterials mainly serve as physical support devices, carriers for bioactive molecules and guidance for tissue growth. In this study, the key technology of regenerative medical therapy are four approaches; 1) to create the substrate for cell proliferation and differentiation, 2) the controlled release of growth factors at the site of action over an extended time period for enhanced tissue regeneration, and 3) gene delivery within a tissue engineering scaffold. |
