The living radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate (MMA) by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) using a new Fe(Ⅱ)X2/diphenyl-2-pyridyl phosphine (PyP) catalytic system (X=Cl, Br ) with various temperatures, initiators and solvents was investigated, respectively. Most of the polymerizations with PyP ligand were well controlled with a linear increase of number average molecular weights (Mn) υs conversion and relatively low molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) throughout the reactions, and the molecular weights matched the predicted molecular weights. The ethyl-2-bromoisobutyrate (EBriB) initiated ATRP of MMA with Fe(Ⅱ)X/diphenyl-2-pyridyl phosphine catalytic system (X=Cl, Br ) was better controlled in p-xylene than other solvents studied on the paper at 80℃. |
