Recently, VRFB have received attention as a large-scale energy storage technology because of their independently tunable power and capacity, long cycle life, rapid response time, and high energy efficiency. The total amount of energy storage of VRFB system is determined by stability of the vanadium electrolyte since the negative and positive electrolytes, the origin of capacity, are stored in reservoirs, respectively. Accordingly, the electrolyte is one of the most important components for VRFB. Also, stability of vanadium electrolyte could be of importance for improving its energy density. For the purpose of increasing stability of the electrolytes, various strategies has been proposed successively. In this study, in order to ensure the safety in long-term operation of VRFB with the positive vanadium electrolyte with additive, the effect of additive on performance of VRFB is required to be investigated. We report in detail the effect of electrolyte containing the additive on the cycling and electrochemical stabilities of VRFB using UV/visible spectroscopy. |
