Flame retardant is a substance that delays ignition and prevents expansion of combustion by adding a compound having flame retardancy such as halogen, phosphorus, nitrogen, or inorganic compound to polymers. Among them, while halogen-containing flame retardants are excellent in flame retardancy, environmental hazard problems are emerging and new flame retardants are being actively researched to replace them. Therefore, we synthesized a novel phosphorus-containing flame retardant (PFR) and then applied to engineering plastic derived from cardanol to compare their thermal properties. The chemical structure of PFR was confirmed by H NMR and FTIR. DSC and TGA were performed to evaluate the thermal properties of PFR. The flame retardancy was also confirmed by LOI. |
