Improved SO2 gas adsorption properties of activated carbon fibers by N2 plasma treatment |

The mechanisms of the SO2 gas adsorption properties of activated carbon fibers were studied based on effects of pore size and nitrogen functional groups. The optimum pore size for SO2 adsorption was studied by various activation conditions such as reaction time and temperature. The surface of the activated carbon fibers (ACFs) was modified by plasma treatment using N2 gas to enhance the adsorption of SO2 based on the effects of introduced nitrogen functional groups. The optimized pore size and introduced nitrogen functional groups played an important role in guiding SO2 into the micropores through the attractive forces experienced by the electrons in the SO2 molecules. |
