Well-Defined Rod-Coil Graft Copolymers Containing Alternating Conjugated Copolymers and Their Self-Assembly Behavior in Bulk Films and Colloidal Particles |

Conjugated rod-coil block copolymers are of great importance to development of polymer-based optoelectronic devices since the self-assembly behavior affords to tune the molecular organization and optoelectronic properties. Here we present a novel architecture of rod-coil graft copolymers containing alternating conjugated copolymer as rod backbone. A series of poly(fluorene-alt-phenylene)-graft-poly(2-vinylpyridine) (PFP-g-P2VP) were synthesized. In order to provide a versatile application of PFP-g-P2VP, the self-assembly behaviors were demonstrated in both bulk films and colloidal particles by TEM and SAXS. We observed that PFP-g-P2VP exhibits self-assembly behaviors as coil-coil copolymers: P2VP cylinder, lamellae, and PFP cylinder with increasing the volume fraction of P2VP. This graft architecture opens up the possibility to synthesize various structures of alternating conjugated copolymers for constructing rod-coil copolymers. |
