Graphene consisting of a carbon monolayer of two-dimensional structure has excellent material properties. However, mass production of graphene is not easy because of inevitable high loss in the process of exfoliation. So, graphene is getting more attention as reinforcements of composite materials. Because graphene oxide, which is precursor material of graphene, has a large amount of oxygen functional groups like hydroxy and epoxy it can be easily surface modified via a simple reaction. In this study, graphene oxide was prepared by a modified Hummer's method and it was alkylated by alkylamine via an epoxy-amine reaction. Alkylated graphene oxide/polypropylene composites were prepared by melt-blending and mechanical properties of them were measured by UTM and izod impact tester. The effects of alkylated graphene oxide on the mechanical properties of the composites were elucidated. |
