Abstract: Recycled butyl rubber (IIR)/virgin IIR compounds were obtained using the internal mixing process, and then vulcanized in a hot press. The effects of recycled IIR content on the mechanical properties and cure characteristic of recycled IIR/virgin IIR compounds were studied. A lower cure rate was acquired with the introduction of recycled IIR into the compounds of virgin IIR. Tensile strength, break elongation and 300% modulus increase with increase in the proportion of recycled IIR up to 15phr.
