Fabrication of Electrically and Optically Stable Photonic Microcapsule in Non-Uniform Electric Field |

Colloid nanoparticle systems have extensively employed for diversity of applications due to their intrinsic forces in self-assembly by various external stimuli. Especially, electric field responsive colloid systems are frequently used because of their various kinds of applications. Electrohydrodynamic effects on a concentric double emulsion drop have been studied theoretically for past decades. We designed such system of aqueous colloid solution in thin-layer double emulsion microcapsules made by the microfluidic chip which showed electrohydrodynamic flow in inner drop under non-uniform electric field. We would control the shell thickness of capsules for active tuning of self-assembly and observe photonic colors to confirm structure ordering formed by dielectrophoresis. These microcapsules showed electrically stable at high electric field which could be a good stepping stone for developing practical applications of photonic displays. |
