Visible-light irradiation of a ternary hybrid catalyst prepared by grafting a dye, an H2 evolving Co(III) catalyst and a CO-producing Re(I) catalyst has been found to produce both H2 and CO (syngas) in CO2-saturated DMF/water solution. The H2/CO ratios are effectively controlled by changing either the water content in solvent or the molar ratio of the two Re(I) and Co(III) catalysts, being ranged from 1:2 to 16:1. The syngas formation with controlled H2/CO ratios has been discussed in terms of competitive electron flow from TiO2 to the CO2-reduction site and to the hydrogen-evolving site depending on the flat-band potential shifts of TiO2 induced by water. |
