Photocatalytic Membrane Reactor Pretreatment for Seawater Reverse Osmosis Desalination |

Membrane fouling is the major hurdle to be resolved in the longtime operation of reverse osmosis (RO) desalination. A TiO2-mediated photocatalytic membrane reactor pretreatment is expected to control the fouling of RO membrane for seawater desalination. In this study, we investigated the photocatalytic degradation of seawater organic matter (SOM) during submerged photocatalytic membrane reactor treatment prior to seawater reverse osmosis filtration. Although photocatalytic pretreatments did not achieve a remarkable improvement in SWRO flux, it still had the potential to reduce fouling caused by SOM. |
