In this study, a series of comb-like polyoxyethylenes with varying fluoroalkyl side group contents was prepared to study the correlation between the surface properties and their surface structures. When the fluoropolymers having 58 to 100 mol % of the monomeric units containing fluoroalkyl side groups were annealed at 60 oC for 2 h, the polymer films showed extremely low surface energy and high surface stability against polar liquids. These surface properties of the polymer films were found to be strongly related with the ordered surface structure qualitatively estimated from the grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD) patterns, while any strong correlations of the surface properties with the average tilt angle calculated from the near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) and the d-spacing values from GIXD were not found. |
