Inorganic particles such as silica aerogel, insuladd and other hollow glass microspheres are well known as thermal insulating fillers due to their low thermal conductivity. Effects of these particles on mechanical property, thermal stability and the most important, thermal insulating property of polyurethane (PU) films are investigated. For this study, series of PU matrixes are synthesized by using hydroxyl-terminated poly(propylene glycol) and poly(tetrahydrofuran) prepolymers with isophorone diisocyanate and poly[(phenyl isocyanate)-co-formaldehyde]. This work is focused on effect of particle volume fraction on thermal insulation behavior of PU composites. Thermal conductivity (k), as an important heat insulating property of materials, is measured by a transient plane method in order to identify the ability of preventing thermal transfer. |
