In previous, we synthesized new poly (oxyethylene) derivatives containing terminal CF3 groups in the side chains by a polymer modification reaction. The side chains of these polymers are well aligned on the polymer surfaces and terminal CF3 groups generate an ordered array of oriented dipoles that increase the interactions with the polar solvents and that decrease those with the non-polar solvent. To control the amount of CF3 moieties on the polymer surfaces - wettability of the polymer surfaces, we prepare blends of CF3 terminated and CH3 terminated poly (oxyethylene) derivatives. Herein we present the surface structures and properties of poly (oxyethylene) derivatives containing terminal CF3 or CH3 groups in the side chains and their blends using near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS), electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis (ESCA), grazing incidence X-ray diffraction (GIXD), and contact angle goniometer. |
