Microencapsulation of PVA-coated TiO2 particles for elctrophoretic display |

Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) was selected to coat titanium dioxide (TiO2) particles via a simple method of coacervation. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images clearly showed that the successful coating was achieved on the surface of TiO2 particles. This coating process was performed in order to improve the dispersion stability of electrophoretic pigment particles in a dielectric medium. The PVA-coated TiO2 particles were encapsulated via an in-situ polymerization using urea/melamine-formaldehyde resin as a wall material and then the microcapsules were put into electric field in order to check movement of the PVA-coated TiO2 particles. |
