Bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) have been explored for treatment to various types of immune-mediated diseases. To treat BMSCs to patients, intravenous infusion has been conducted. However, in case of direct injection into blood vessel, cells are suspended in a single cell conditions and therefore, the cells could be damaged for shear stress. To overcome previous limitation, we designed cytoprotective multilayer films on BMSCs by Layer-by-Layer (LbL) assembly using RGD peptide. Consequently, the RGD peptide provided BMSCs were more stable under agitation culture and the cells migrated freely regardless of film coated/uncoated state. As a result, we have successfully prepared RGD peptide-incorporated LbL films that protect cells from shear stress and help the cells to remain stable in single cell condition as well as showing various functions. We anticipate that the RGD peptide loaded LbL films on MSCs have the possibilities of enhancing outcomes of stem cells applications or engineering. |
