Hybrid materials such as core-shell particles have received much attention because they have multi-functionality and diverse properties toward applying many fields including solid surfactants for Pickering emulsions, optical and energy devices, catalysts, photonic structures and so on. Here, we fabricated monodisperse photonic ball with silica@PMMA particles by using a microfluidic device. First, monodisperse silica particles were prepared with two phase method and Stöber method. And then, methyl methacrylate (MMA) monomers were polymerized by emulsion polymerization on the surface of silica particles treated with 3-trimethoxysilyl propyl methacrylate (MPS). Finally, monodisperse photonic balls were fabricated from emulsion droplets prepared by using a microfluidic device. We expect that durability of these photonic balls would be enhanced by continuous PMMA matrix, which is formed through thermal annealing and their reflectance peak would be constant regardless of medium. |
