We studied on a photoresponsive organic complementary inverter and its photoresponsive behavior. The organic electro-optical circuit was fabricated by integrating pentacene and copper hexadecafluorophthalocyanine (F16CuPc) organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) with a polymeric gate dielectric. The F16CuPc OTFT shows typical n-type characteristics and strong photoresponse behavior under illumination, but pentacene OTFT based on shows little photoresponsive behavior under illumination. It was found that performances of the organic electro-optical circuit can be controlled either by the light intensity or a gate bias, or both. By using optical or combination of optical and electrical pulse signal, multi-level switching has been demonstrated in this type of organic electro-optical circuit. This suggests that the circuit based on organic complementary inverter can be widely used in various optoelectronic applications including optical sensor, photodetectors and electro-optical transceivers. |
