제목 Development of Zwitterionic Polyurethane additives possessing anti-fouling effect for Implantable Medical Device Applications
초록 Thrombus formation and infection are problems in implantable medical device development. Polyurethanes (PUs) have been used in various medical device field due to their biocompatibility, flexibility, and thermal stability. In this study, we designed a novel anti-thrombogenic and anti-microbial PUs by modification with various additives. The zwitterionic groups were grafted on the PUs backbone. These prepared zwitterionic PUs were characterized using 1H-NMR, FTIR, and element analysis. All results indicate that both zwitterionic side chains and anti-bacterial end-groups were successfully introduced into the PUs backbone. The surface properties of various base-polymers such as PU, PLGA, and PVC with and without zwitterionic PUs were identified using water contact angle measurement. We also investigated human fibrinogen and bovine serum albumin antifouling effect of prepared additives after mixing with base-polymers. The anti-microbial effect of zwitterionic PUs will also be confirmed.
