Nanodiamond/Gold Nanocomposites for Signal-Amplified Photoacoustic Imaging Agent |

Photoacoustic (PA) imaging is a rising hybrid optical-ultrasound based imaging technique that can be used to visualize optical energy absorbers in deep tissue. NDAuNP agglutinnates was observed with 100nm in size and AuNP was chemically conjugated on the ND surface. The surface enhanced Raman scattering spectra showed enhanced intensity for NDAuNP, compared to AuNP in concentration dependent manner. The results indicate that energy absorbing nanodiamonds provide facilitating energy transfer into AuNP, inducing local plasmonic effect. NDAuNP exhibited stronger photoacoustic signal intensities, compared with the AuNPs, as well as signal maintenance for prolonged period of laser irradiation. Local plasmonic effect of gold and energy absorbing properties of nanodiamond amplified PA signal of gold and impeded the degradation of gold without signal decay. The NDAuNP nanocomposites further might grant the promising tissue imaging probe, providing high PA signal amplitudes. |
