In recent years, the biotech industry needs new analytical tools and solutions to study life science. Miniaturization of bioanalytical systems helps the lowering the cost and time to do experiments in order to streamline and accelerate laboratory assays. Microfluidics also can be used to speed up and simplify the sample preparation steps in genomic and proteomic research and to offer high-throughput, low-cost versions of traditional research methods. Future micro- and nanotechnology for bioanalytical systems will become an increasingly important component for genomic and proteomic applications, as well as drug discovery and development research. In this presentation, some recent technical achievements in BioMEMS/ Nanobiotechnology areas will be reviewed first and then bio-fluidic devices for protein assay will be discussed. Special emphasis will be given to the potential of microfluidics for biological assays, the multiple assay format using disposable microchip, and the application for high throughput screening system. |
