제목 Synthesis and Properties of Waterborne PUs Having Amide Groups
초록 Waterborne polyurethanes(PUs) can be formulated with little or no solvent, and hence they are nontoxic, nonflammable and do not pollute the air. However, their mechanical and other performance properties are inferior to the conventional solvent-based PUs. Thus, a number of methods to modify the waterborne PUs have been suggested and some of them were put into practices.
In this study, anionic aqueous based PUs having amide groups were prepared by chain-extending the prepolymer with various diacid such as adipic acid, azelaic acid, and isophthalic acid. Waterborne PUs were synthesized from poly (tetramethylene adipate) glycol(PTAd), isophorone diisocyante(IPDI), dimethylolpropionic acid(DMPA), and triethylamine(TEA). We studied emulsion properties, thermal and mechanical properties, morphology, and adhesive property. DMTA measurements showed that adipic acid extended PU gave greater soft segment-hard segment phase separation as compared to butane diol extension, due probably to the increased cohesion of hard segments.
