We have developed Centrifugal Microfluidic System (CMS) that can synthesize functional materials through assembly of conical tubes, eppendorf tubes and needles. The size and shape of the beads and fibers were controlled by the concentration of the solution, the centrifugal force, and the distance between the needle orifice and the top surface of CaCl2 solution. Janus beads and fibers were produced to selectively remove radioactive contaminants like Cs+ and Sr2+ simultaneously by using prussian blue and hydroxyapatite based on alginate solution and injecting them into two needles. Then, we carried out viscosity measurements of each solution that showed the properties of non-Newtonian fluids with shear thinning and when curve fitting is performed based on the Power model, the shear rate of the solution at the needle can be derived at a specific rpm. So, we can predict the viscosity corresponding to specific shear rate and adjust the viscous balance of both fluids to create Janus shape. |
