Fluorogenic detection of biothiols using nanocrystal-thiol interaction |

Biothiols such as glutathione, cysteine and homocysteine are involved in a wide variety of biological events pertaining to metabolism and diseases, and to this end, quantitative sensing of these molecules from physiological samples is one of the concerns in diagnostic field. In this study, we found that the surface of colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals could be utilized for such pruposes due to binding affinity of thiol moiety toward crystal surface and the close relationship between surface states and fluorescence of nanocrystals. Through introducing oxidants onto nanocrystals, fluorescence-quenchedm ligand-detached nanocrystals with an abundance of available surface binding sites were prepared. these pretreated nanocrystals exhibited fluorescence recovery with respect ro the concentration of biothiols. This presentation will describe detailedcharacterization on optical behaviors along with surface chemistry during sensing of biothiols. |
