Plasmon-Enhanced Water Splitting Performance of Ag Nanoparticle-Impregnated BiVO4 Photoanode |

We have synthesized Ag NP-impregnated BiVO4 photoanodes (Ag-BiVO4) for harnessing the localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) from the Ag NPs. The synthesized Ag NPs show fully-embedded feature which is desirable for a maximum utilization of a LSPR-induced enhancement as confirmed by finite-difference time-domain simulations. The performances of the Ag-BiVO4 show a remarkable improvement in both low potential and the saturated current density in comparison with that of the pristine BiVO4. The observed results are attributed to the improved carrier generation and separation by the LSPR-mediated effects. We believe that the results of this study are easily applicable to the photocatalysis systems which consist of the visible-light-active photocatalyst and the metal nanoparticles including Ag, Au, and Pt. |
