제목 | Human Sensory and Extra-sensory Interactive Displays |
초록 | Human-interactive displays (HIDs) facilitate the visualisation of sensible information such as touch, smell, and sound and have attracted significant interest owing to their potential in emerging IoT-connected wearable electronics. Furthermore, the visualisation of phenomena that is rarely sensible, such as magnetic fields, ultrasonic waves, and odourless toxic gases or liquids, can further broaden the utilisation of HIDs. Field induced electroluminescence (EL) of either organic or inorganic fluorescent materials under alternating current (AC) has been extensively studied and its unique device architecture in which an emitting layer is separated with an insulator from electrode offers a new platform for designing and developing emerging HIDs. Here, I present various sensory and extra-sensory interactive displays based on AC EL. Simultaneous sensing and visualization of the conductive substance is achieved when the conductive object is coupled with the light emissive material layer on our novel parallel-type field-induced EL device [1,2]. The AC field exerted on the epidermal skin layer depends on the conductance of the skin, which can be modulated based on a variety of physiological skin factors, such as the temperature, sweat gland activity, and pressure. A novel extra-sensory display, magneto-interactive electroluminescent display patchable on skin, is demonstrated, which is capable of sensing, visualising, and storing magnetic field information, thereby enabling 3D motion tracking [3]. For this purpose, a magnetic field-dependent conductive gate is employed in an AC-EL display, which is used to produce non-volatile and rewritable magnetic field-dependent EL display. By constructing mechanically flexible arrays of non-volatile magneto-interactive EL displays, a skin-patchable and pixelated platform is realised. References: [1]. E. H. Kim, C. Park et al. Nat.
