Surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) has attracted considerable attention in recent years, due to its ability to detect analytes at exceedingly low concentrations, thus providing a useful tool in chemical/biomolecular sensing. Especially, silver (Ag) and gold (Au) nanoparticles have been primarily used as SERS active materials due to their remarkable surface plasmon characteristics. Recently, Ag/Au bimetallic system with dielectric layer have been used to supplement the shortcomings of both the noble metals as well as optimization of SPR characteristics, resulting in excellent SERS performance. Herein, we demonstrate the facile fabrication method of Ag-Au core shell particles with dielectric interlayers and their well-controlled arrays for SERS-active substrates. The Ag/Au bimetallic hybrid systems show two SPR absorption bands resulting from both the metals and highly enhanced SERS signals. |
